Ars-Häme ry was found in the 1970s to promote fine arts in Häme and to foster the professional interests of Häme artists. The actors in the early stages were e.g. Anneli Sipiläinen, Aura Jylhä-Vuorio, Egon Meuronen, Reino Vihinen, Kalle Siukola, Jaakko Veuro, Martti Mertanen, Tellervo Töyry, Väinö Merilä, Annu Eklund and Ilkka-Juhani Takalo-Eskola.
Ars-Häme ry continues working as an organization of professional visual artists and promoting art and the status of the artist. Within the terms of membership the influence is implemented through the social and community work, and the activities focused on the art and artists.
The association strives to organize the conditions for the artists’ professional work in Häme. The association’s structure consists of holding exhibitions and Artotheque activity, as well as the provision of affordable studios for artists.
Taidehalli Häme presents 12-13 visual art exhibitions selected annually by the exhibition committee. The association’s Artotheque is connected to the gallery. Ars-Häme ry manages two artist spaces: Taidekasarmi in Hämeenlinna and Välittäjä 3 in Riihimäki. The spaces offer diverse opportunities for the implementation of interdisciplinary projects. Ars-Häme ry also rents low-cost artist’s studios.
The association wants to work with different communities. Residency cooperation between Ars-Häme ry and Künstlerhaus Lukas in Ahrenshoop, Germany, The Art Häme Art Weeks, the Stockholm Supermarket event, the collaboration with the artist-run Toolbox Gallery, the collaboration with Kiasma and the ARS 11 satellite exhibition are a few examples of the art activities.
